Resource title and description in English | Near-term forecast of Austrian greenhouse gas emissions for 2023. The near-term forecast of greenhouse gas emissions was carried out using a simplified methodology and shows provisional emissions for 2023 of around 68.2 million tonnes. Compared to 2022, this represents a decrease of 6.4% or 4.7 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent. At 24.4 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent, the emissions reported by emissions trading installations were 8.3% lower in 2023. This is due in particular to declines in gas-fired power plants, the cement, paper and pulp industry and steel production. In the economic sectors that are not subject to European emissions trading, around 43.7 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent were emitted in 2023. The decrease in emissions of around 5.3 % compared to 2022 is mainly due to the lower sales volumes of fuels (-2.8 %), heating oil (-18 %) and natural gas (-5.5 %). |
