Resource title and description in English Active mobility - walking and cycling. Active mobility, i.e. getting around using one's own muscle power, plays a key role in the mobility transition. Walking and cycling are climate-friendly, healthy, inclusive, cost-efficient, pollutant-free, quiet and area-friendly. However, active mobility also needs suitable conditions and framework conditions, such as a fair allocation of public spaces or the promotion of road safety of active forms of mobility. This brief study shows the status quo of active mobility and potentials for its promotion. Finally, international examples show how more and more cities and municipalities are using innovative approaches to create more space for active mobility and contribute to the sustainable mobility transition.
