Resource title and description in English Rebound effects in mobility. Rebound effects reduce the effectiveness of measures for environmentally friendly mobility. The expected energy or CO2 savings are not achieved to the full extent, but are reduced by changes in usage behaviour. Rebound effects are risk factors for energy and climate scenarios that rely primarily on more efficient technologies. However, if they are systematically taken into account and accompanying measures are taken, this reduces the risk of missing environmental and climate targets. This can be achieved if fewer and shorter journeys are made and economic growth is decoupled from resource consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. This brief study was prepared as part of the project "Sustainable Mobility Transition" on behalf of the German Federal Environment Agency.
