Resource title and description in English Socio-economic considerations under genetic engineering law. Socio-economic assessments of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are again increasingly discussed with the advent of new genetic engineering. This report discusses different assessment systems and examines the extent to which sustainability aspects and ecological issues are taken into account. In addition, an overview of the existing data situation is given. Data gaps, including on social and ecological as well as longer-term impacts, affect the practical implementation of a comprehensive socio-economic assessment of GMOs. Finally, the report discusses the prerequisites for a full consideration of environmental aspects in the authorisation of GMOs, including the question of what risks exist, for example, in the introduction of a risk-benefit analysis.
