Resource title and description in English Air quality and meteorological measurements. Annual report background monitoring network Federal Environment Agency 2023. The Federal Environment Agency operates seven air quality measuring stations at which background pollution, long-distance transport of air pollutants and air quality trends are recorded. The report shows the results of the measurements in 2023 and the development of pollution levels over the last 30 years. The limit values for particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide and carbon monoxide as well as for heavy metals and benzo(a)pyrene were complied with at all measuring points in 2023. The lowest levels of PM10, PM2.5, NO2, NOx and B(a)P to date were measured at the non-alpine monitoring sites. Ozone pollution in 2023 was below the average of recent decades. Nevertheless, the target values for ozone to protect human health and vegetation were exceeded at two and three measuring points respectively.
