Resource title and description in English The life cycle assessment of heavy commercial vehicles and buses. The LCA shows the climate compatibility of different technology and fuel options in four application cases in the vehicle categories of heavy commercial vehicles and buses. Greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption were compared. Both upstream and downstream emissions that occur during the production of the vehicle and the energy source were taken into account, as well as direct emissions from driving. The analysis of 17 technology and fuel options shows that battery electric vehicles (BEVs) using 100% electricity from renewable energy sources are the most climate-friendly in all applications. Hydrogen powertrains have similarly low greenhouse gas emissions, but lower energy efficiency. The appropriate configuration of battery capacity, resource-saving production and recycling help to further improve the life cycle assessment of heavy-duty vehicles and buses.
