Resource title and description in English Implementation of the Minamata Convention on Mercury in Austria. Under the Minamata Convention on Mercury, Austria is obliged to implement and carry out emission reduction and monitoring measures. This report builds on the 2016 report and provides an overview of the mercury problem in Austria and worldwide. The data situation of global mercury pollution is discussed with regard to emissions, concentrations and causes of formation and release, among other things, as well as considerations on the effectiveness evaluation of the agreement. Current Austrian studies and monitoring activities on mercury in the environment and in humans are described. Furthermore, applications of mercury and developments in industry and around contaminated sites are discussed and potential fields of action are identified.
