Resource title and description in English Register of suspected contaminated sites and contaminated land atlas. As of 1 January 2023, 70,379 contaminated sites and old deposits as well as 341 contaminated sites are known in Austria. The registration of contaminated sites has been largely completed. In 2022, ten contaminated sites were identified, four were remediated or secured. This is shown in the annual report on the register of suspected contaminated sites and the contaminated site atlas of the Federal Environment Agency. The basis for the processing is the Contaminated Sites Remediation Act, which stipulates that the recorded sites are to be processed. Essential for this is the investigation of suspected contaminated sites and the assessment of the environmental hazard that emanates or may emanate from contaminated sites and old deposits. The report provides information on the processing status of the registered areas and on the progress in the remediation of contaminated sites throughout Austria.
